Botox® Areas of Treatment
Since most facial expressions involve many muscle groups, we recommend treating multiple areas together for the best, most natural results. When properly dosed and performed by an experienced injector, Botox helps minimize lines and wrinkles while retaining your natural expressions. Here are some of the most common areas of treatment.
- Forehead Lines: These dynamic wrinkles are often the first to appear on the face. By relaxing the underlying forehead muscles, Botox helps reduce the repetitive skin creasing that causes lines and wrinkles.
- Frown Lines: Also known as the “11’s”, frown lines appear between the eyebrows when making certain facial expressions such as an angry face. Botox relaxes this movement, preventing and reducing wrinkles in this area.
- Crow’s Feet: These are the lines that form around the eyes when smiling or squinting. Crow’s feet Botox can help soften these lines without impacting your smile.
- Under Eye: Botox can be used to treat the small muscular bulge under the lash line known as the “jelly roll”. In some cases, it can also help soften the associated fine lines. Botox is not suited for reducing under-eye bags or wrinkles caused by skin laxity.
- Pebbly Chin: A chin that reveals dimples when making certain expressions, pebbly chin or “orange peel chin” can be improved with a small dose of Botox.
- Masseters: The masseter muscles, located in the jaw area and responsible for chewing, can be injected with Botox to promote a slimmer “V-shaped” face. In some individuals, the masseter muscles are more pronounced and give the face a wider appearance than desired.
- Neck Bands: Also known as platysmal bands, these are the vertical muscular bands that become more apparent with age. Botox injected directly into these bands can help reduce their prominent appearance.
- Lip Flip: A small dose of Botox injected above the lip can help increase the visibility of the top lip and help prevent the top lip from curling underneath when smiling. Lip flips, however, do not add volume, so they are not a comparable alternative to lip filler. Lip flips are also great for correcting a “gummy smile”, a case where the gums above the upper teeth show when smiling.
Before & After
When choosing a cosmetic treatment, it is important to ensure that the treatment effectively addresses your primary concerns. It is also critical to understand what type of results you can expect. The following Botox before and after photos demonstrate the excellent outcomes that are possible with this popular treatment.
Note: Each individual responds to treatments differently, so results vary. Botox results rely heavily on technique, so it is important to select a reputable practice with qualified injectors for best results.
How Botox® Works
Botox® Cosmetic minimizes the appearance of wrinkles by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles responsible for creating dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are the lines and creases that appear on the skin when we make facial expressions, such as smiling, frowning, or even just talking. Over time, repeated muscle contractions lead to the formation of these wrinkles, which include forehead lines, frown lines (the lines between the eyebrows, also known as 11’s), and crow’s feet (the lines around the eyes).
When Botox® is strategically injected into specific facial muscles, it blocks the release of the neurotransmitter responsible for signaling the muscle to contract. As a result, the treated muscles temporarily lose their ability to contract fully. When the muscles are relaxed, the overlying skin no longer creases, resulting in the dynamic wrinkles becoming less visible or disappearing altogether.
Botox® Results
The effects of Botox typically become noticeable within a few days to a week after the treatment, with full onset developing within two weeks. The results last for about three to four months. As the effects wear off, muscle movement gradually returns, so routine maintenance treatments are necessary for maintaining the desired results.

Common BOTOX® Questions
BOTOX Cosmetic , created by Allergan, is one of the greatest advancements in the cosmetic industry. BOTOX is a purified form botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes the targeted muscles, thereby minimizing and/or eliminating unwanted wrinkles. Botox treatments can smooth way crow’s feet, frown lines, and more, around the eyes, mouth, forehead and neck. As a result, you walk away with a rejuvenated, youthful look. Even better, Botox treatments require no downtime. The injections can be done in just 5 to 10 minutes depending on the area being treated. You can expect to see results within a week after treatment.
BOTOX Cosmetic treatments have no downtime. The treatment takes 15 minutes or less, and you can return to most normal activities immediately. We recommend that you do not lay down for 4 hours after treatment. Refrain from exercise and sweating until the next day.
There are several other injectable facial fillers available that address the same problem areas as Botox®, such as Juvederm, rest alone, and Collagen. However, there is a main difference in how they work. Injectable fillers give your face a much more youthful and smoother appearance by “filling in” wrinkles and frown lines in the face. They can also be used to “fill in” on other areas of the body.
Botox, on the other hand, works by relaxing the facial muscles that cause the lines and wrinkles on your face. As a result, your face appears fresher and smoother. In addition, because of the relaxation of the facial muscles, new wrinkles are less likely to be formed while Botox is still active. Botox injections typically last bout 3-4 months on average
The side effects of Botox are very minimal, if any, and usually subside within a few days. Side effects can include temporary swelling, bruising, or redness. Loss of sensation or numbness in treated areas is not really an issue associated with Botox treatments. In order to minimize the occurrence of any side effects, be sure to only receive Botox injections from a respected professional, inform him or her of any health problems you may have and/or any medications you are talking, and most importantly, follow the pre and post treatment instructions set by the doctor.
There are two ways to charge for Botox treatment; either per unit of Botox used or per area treated. If being charged by area, costs typically range between $125 and $400 per treatment area. If being charged per unit Botox, costs range anywhere between $10 and $25 per unit, depending on the location of the body being treated. Multiple areas can be treated at once, and on average, repeat treatments are needed every 3 to 4 months.
